The Cuteberry Nail Challenge day 8: Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band inspired nails & September What’s In-die Box? nail mail

*Nothing to disclose

Whoa! Long title, hey? Today I bring you day eight ofΒ The Cuteberry Nail Challenge, which is your favourite album cover. My all-time favourite band is The Beatles. I have always loved The Beatles, but it wasn’t until university when I started to fully appreciate their greatness. My favourite album by far is Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. I’m not totally sure why either… there’s just something about it that appeals to me. I mean, this album started the whole concept album trend that was made big by other bands such as Pink Floyd and Genesis.

So I took the inspiration for my nail art from the cover of the album, namely the colours John, Ringo, Paul and George are wearing as well as the white button-y things on the front of their clothes.

Polishes I used:

  • Ulta3 Pink Hibiscus (pink)
  • Ulta3 Coral reef (orange)
  • Revlon Love Hurts (the green side called Love)
  • Mode Cosmetics Hook Me Up (blue)
  • Kiss Nail Art Paint striper in white

I really liked this nail design, even if it may be a little abstract. But there was no way I could replicate the whole album; I’m not even sure if the best nail artists could!

Anywho, this week I also received some awesome nail mail: my September What’s In-die Box?! This month’s theme is Sex and the City. I will be able to give you more information when I swatch them on the weekend, but at this stage I have to say I am a little underwhelmed by the polishes. I love Sex and the City and none of them lived up to my expectations apart from one from Peita’s Polish. I have below the packaging and some bottle shots for you.

It came in perfect packaging, as always! Very exciting to unwrap each polish.

August What’s In-die Box? swatches & review – Glam Polish, Lilypad Lacquer, Peita’s Polish, Sayuri Nail Lacquer & Gloss ‘n Sparkle

*Nothing to disclose

Happy weekend! I have so far had a great weekend and today I swatched the August What’s In-die Box?. If you’re unfamiliar with What’s In-die Box?, it’s a collection of five Australian indie nail polish makers collaborating to make on collection of polishes a month based on a particular theme. This month’s theme is Wreck-It Ralph. I had no idea what this was but I Googled it and it turns out it’s a Disney children’s film that was released last year. So let’s start!

Oh, before we do, I probably should mention I have a cut on my ring finger from chopping vegetables. See this is why I shouldn’t cook!

Lilypad Lacquer Vanellope by Dry, Dammit!

Lilypad Lacquer Vanellope

This is two coats without top coat. This is such a gorgeous mint linear holo with a gold, purple and blue shift. The second photo you see is with flash. For a holo is was very easy to apply, no balding, but with one coat it’s quite sheer so you definitely need to coats to get opacity. Lilypad Lacquer should so put this in its line-up of polishes to buy, I’m sure it would be such a best seller!

Also a note on my outside finger shot for this polish and the next. When I swatched my first two polishes a horrible shadow would cast no matter where I seemed to put my hands so I finally found a way to hold them, but it’s made my pointer finger shorter than my ring finger, which is not the case at all! It’s just because I had to lean over awkwardly.

This is two dabbed coats over two coats of Vanellope with no top coat. This is just an incredible glitter polish in a clear base. Glitters include red diamond hexes, fine gold glitter and dots in two sizes, white diamonds and dots and purple hexes and small dots. I had to fish for the large dots, especially the white ones for some reason. I recommend turning the bottle upside down before using the polish. I really love this top coat, I love the dots and diamonds and it’s such a dense polish!

Sayuri Fro Cone by Dry, Dammit!

This is two coats with a top coat. It’s a glitter polish in a purple base. The glitters include purple stars, hexes and squares, fine purple and silver glitters and red hexes in three sizes. Looking at the bottle I didn’t realise there were stars in it, so that was a nice surprise. However I did have to fish for the stars once I knew they were there. This is a very subtle polish as the purple glitters are a very close colour to the purple base. It’s also very gritty without a top coat, so I put one coat of top coat on, but this might even need two or more to smooth out all the bumps.

Gloss 'n Sparkle Bad Anon by Dry, Dammit!

Gloss ‘n Sparkle Bad Anon

This is three coats without top coat. A black jelly base with multi-coloured iridescent glitters. I could see hints of orange, blue, green, gold and purple squares, hexes and fine glitter. This was very easy to apply and it was not gritty at all in finish like Fro Cone is.

Peita's Polish Ralph by Dry, Dammit!

Two coats over one coat of Models Prefer Little Black Dress without top coat. This is another clear base polish with glitters including large orange hexes, smaller green hexes and orange, gold and iridescent mini hexes. It’s not as dense as King of all the Candy!!! but it builds up nicely.

So that’s the August box! For me it’sΒ Glam Polish King of all the Candy!!! that has won me over and suits the theme of the box the best. Next month’s theme is Sex and the City and the participating indie polish makers are Glam Polish, Lilypad Lacquer, Peita’s Polish, Emily de Molly and Celestial Cosmetics. Oh my gosh I’m so looking forward to it. I hope the inspiration is Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, Miranda and Mr Big! I can’t wait to see what is thought of.

If you’re interested in purchasing next month’s What’s In-die Box? head over to Peita’s Polish and take a look. The cost is AU$55.94 including shipping. Unfortunately at this time it’s only open to Australian residents. Thanks for reading!

Savvy by DB 100’s & 1000’s & Emily de Molly nail mail

*Nothing to disclose

Hello! Before I talk about Savvy by DB 100’s & 1000’s I want to first show you my Emily de Molly nail mail! Very exciting. Recently Emily de Molly had its one-year anniversary and to celebrate Hayley had 25% off all purchases for (I think) one day only. How could I resist?

Emily de Molly nail mail

From left we have: Devotion, Monet’s Garden, Steeling Diamonds, Block Party, Serenity and Candy Coated. Aren’t they pretty? You might notice that the bottle tops are different. I think this is to make way for a new brush, which is wider than the old ones.

In the above picture you can see the new brush on the left and the older brush on the right. Much wider. I’ll let you know what I think once I’ve tried it!

Anywho, moving on, today I bring you another Savvy by DB polish. My husband actually asked me, what, are you be paid by this company to do this? So I think my next few polishes won’t be by Savvy by DB so people don’t get overwhelmed by it.

100’s & 1000’s is a multi-coloured glitter in a clear base. It’s got small and large glitters of blue, green, gold, pink, silver orange – it’s got whatever you want! Apart from the misuse of apostrophes, this is actually a nice glitter top coat. I wore two coats over two coats of Ulta3 Lily White.

Savvy by DB 100's & 1000's

Once again I did what I love doing with glitter and that is put a matte top coat on top. To me it just makes the glitter pop more.

DETAILS

  • Where to buy: Priceline
  • Cost: AU$3
  • Volume: 10ml
  • Coats to opacity: Glitter top coat only

I found the next day of wearing this the white polish underneath 100’s & 1000’s went a bit off-colour. I don’t know if it’s something with the polish or whether it was the Lily White, but it was just weird, that’s never happened to me before. Do you know what that might be? Has it happened to you? Nail mail & WingDustCollections Save a Life

*Nothing to disclose

Hello! So today I received the best type of mail – nail mail! About a week ago I bought some polish from ErinZi’s Nails through Erin’s blog sale. Erin’s blog is fantastic by the way, if you have not visited it you should, Erin does the most outstanding nail art and she also makes her own nail sets, which she can custom make for you as well. So yeah, totally talented. And I am totally jealous. *Sigh*

Anyway, in the blog sale I bought four polishes. Well, one’s not really a polish but more of a pack. I purchased WingDustCollections Save a Life, a beautiful delicate lilac jelly with some small holo glitters, larger purple hexes and the occasional large white hex. I also bought WingDustCollections Hope, which is a white shimmery base with small holo glitters and then some large silver, white and pink square glitters. Two very subtle polishes.

I also bought a Sally Hansen Gem Crush minis set, which includes Big Money, Be-Jeweled, Bling-tastic and Lady Luck. This was such a great find as I was considering buying some of the Gem Crush polishes, but thought I would wait until I decided which ones! So four for AU$4 was perfect.

Finally, I bought Gloss ‘n Sparkle Fruit Tingle. I have been wanting to get my hands on this polish for so long that I could barely believe Erin had it for sale! It is truly better in person. It is a bold purple creme with small silver and pink glitters and larger blue and black hexes, with the black hexes two different sizes. I cannot wait to wear it.

Here’s a picture of my nail mail, which includes the four peach gummy candy lollies Erin included in my pack as an extra surprise!
