Black & nude outline / border nail art

Hiya! A quick post tonight to show you some nail art I had been wearing last week. I’m calling it “black and nude outline / border nail art” because I’m really not sure how else to describe it. I don’t know who started the outline craze, but I really like it, albeit finding it difficult for me to do! It was my first attempt, so I think I did OK enough.

I first applied two coats of OPI My Vampire is Buff (after base coat) and then got out my trusty BYS black nail striper and drew the middle lines. I was going to stop there – originally going for a chic simplistic look – but then figured “Hey, why not try doing an outline of my nails, too?” So as you can probably tell I was exceptionally messy and had to do a vigorous acetone clean-up afterwards. Once that was done I applied a thick coat of Seche. It was the first time in a while I had properly put on a thick coat of Seche and I now remember why it’s so beneficial to do so – this design lasted ages on my nails. I wore it to work all week with no problems. I’m looking forward to perfecting this outline look and wearing the design again soon. Have you tried this look? What do you think? Thanks for reading!

The Cuteberry Nail Challenge day 11: Michael Jackson Thriller nail art

Hiya! I know it’s been a while but I wanted to post another Cuteberry Nail Challenge post. This is why I will never do another nail challenge, I am just not dedicated enough! (I’ve been doing this challenge for about, what, five months now!?) So this is day 11 and it’s inspired by your favourite music video. I’ve always loved Michael Jackson so deciding to do something inspired by Thriller was pretty obvious for me.

As you can see I’ve done it a bit “abstract” again, but that’s the way I roll. So my thumb and pinky are inspired by MJ’s eyes at the end of the Thriller video and the red and black design on my pointer, middle and ring fingers are inspired by the red jacket with deep V MJ wears. I get it, I hope you do too!

Polishes I used:

  • Revlon All Fired Up (red)
  • essence Little Miss Sunrise (yellow)
  • BYS nail striper in black

So what do you think? Too far out? I just don’t think I could have managed to draw little Michaels on all my fingers though, sorry. Thanks for reading!

The Cuteberry Nail Challenge day 9: Little black dress nails

Hello! Today I bring you day nine of The Cuteberry Nail Challenge. This day is inspired by your favourite piece of clothing. After much consideration I decided on doing a little black dress design, but I’m a bit freaked out that my nails look a bit like alien heads. The reason for this is hard to explain without the pictures below, but essentially I wanted to replicate an A-line dress and to do this I used a striping brush in white to create the A-line effect and also the look of sleeves. However when I turned my hand upside down the white areas looked a little like alien eyes, ha ha!

This is obviously quite an easy design, but the trick is to make the white areas as straight as you can, but it’s really hard!

Polishes I used:

  • Models Prefer Little Black Dress (how fitting, hey!?)
  • Kiss Nail Art Paint striper in white

So what do you think? A little too abstract or on the money? I found the idea of having to replicate your favourite item of clothing a little hard to to get my head around, but I don’t mind the result. Thanks for reading!

The Cuteberry Nail Challenge day 8: Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band inspired nails & September What’s In-die Box? nail mail

Whoa! Long title, hey? Today I bring you day eight of The Cuteberry Nail Challenge, which is your favourite album cover. My all-time favourite band is The Beatles. I have always loved The Beatles, but it wasn’t until university when I started to fully appreciate their greatness. My favourite album by far is Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. I’m not totally sure why either… there’s just something about it that appeals to me. I mean, this album started the whole concept album trend that was made big by other bands such as Pink Floyd and Genesis.

So I took the inspiration for my nail art from the cover of the album, namely the colours John, Ringo, Paul and George are wearing as well as the white button-y things on the front of their clothes.

Polishes I used:

  • Ulta3 Pink Hibiscus (pink)
  • Ulta3 Coral reef (orange)
  • Revlon Love Hurts (the green side called Love)
  • Mode Cosmetics Hook Me Up (blue)
  • Kiss Nail Art Paint striper in white

I really liked this nail design, even if it may be a little abstract. But there was no way I could replicate the whole album; I’m not even sure if the best nail artists could!

Anywho, this week I also received some awesome nail mail: my September What’s In-die Box?! This month’s theme is Sex and the City. I will be able to give you more information when I swatch them on the weekend, but at this stage I have to say I am a little underwhelmed by the polishes. I love Sex and the City and none of them lived up to my expectations apart from one from Peita’s Polish. I have below the packaging and some bottle shots for you.

It came in perfect packaging, as always! Very exciting to unwrap each polish.

The Cuteberry Nail Challenge day 7: Sarah Jessica Parker nails

Evening! Today I bring you day seven of The Cuteberry Nail Challenge; your favourite celebrity. I thought for ages what who would be my celebrity inspiration, thinking that I didn’t really have a favourite celebrity, but then I realised I have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to Sarah Jessica Parker so who else better to replicate? Granted, this is SJP as Carrie, but it’s still technically SJP!

My nails are of the pink dress Carrie wears in the first Sex and the City film where she calls Samantha to tell her about her engagement to Big. I kept it simple and just took the main colours and shapes from her dress, those being pink, black and white, as well as the stripe for the belt and the dots for the studs. The next day after doing this design, a pack of 2mm silver studs came in the mail, which would have been so perfect for the studs over the black! Oh well.

I was really happy with this design. My boss even noticed this design, which is a first for him. That then got me going on a bit about nail polish, which I think he got bored of pretty quick though unfortunately.

Polishes I used:

  • Ulta3 Pink Hibiscus (pink)
  • Models Prefer No Angel (white)
  • Kiss Nail Art Paint striper in black

So, what do you think? I tried to be as neat as possible but I think there’s still plenty of room for improvement. Still, it looked good from a distance, ha ha. Thanks for reading!

The Cuteberry Nail Challenge day 6: Winter nails

Hello! Today I bring you day six of The Cuteberry Nail Challenge. This day’s theme is your favourite season. My favourite season is winter. I’m not sure why, I think it’s because I’ve always preferred to be really cold than really hot. My skin is quite pale and I am very prone to sunburn!

Instead of just doing large snowflakes on my fingers, which I did consider as I thought it might be relatively simple, I decided to do a more true-to-life representation of what winter is like where I live. In Hobart, Tasmania, there is a large mountain called Mt Wellington (its indigenous names are Unghbanyahletta, Poorawetter, or Kunanyi). It can pretty much be seen from wherever you are in the city and in winter it’s snow-capped one day and then dry the next. So I decided to do a little tribute to Mt Wellington when it is snow-capped.

Now I know my version of the mountain is lusher than the picture, but I took creative licence! I am actually proud of the little clouds. Also, I am sorry about the messiness around my cuticles! I swear when I looked at my fingers they were perfect. Isn’t it funny what the camera will pick up and really highlight? Grrr and also sorry about my stupid annoying cut still!

Polishes I used:

  • Revlon Posh (green)
  • Revlon Dreamer (blue)
  • Ulta3 Exotic Canary (yellow)
  • Ulta3 Sea Breeze Swirl (light green)
  • Sinful Colors Nirvana (brown)
  • BYS white nail striper

The next day of The Cuteberry Nail Challenge is your favourite celebrity… I don’t really have one so that will be interesting! I might just take inspiration from a picture of someone famous who is half decent, I guess. Thanks for reading!

Butterfly wing nails with W7 Last Tango in Paris

Good evening! Tonight I bring you a quick post to show you some nail art I did with W7 Last Tango in Paris. I needed to cover up my worn tips so I figured instead of doing a French manicure, why not try a butterfly manicure? It turns out it was so much easier than I thought it would be, so of course that made me happy.

I think to make this manicure pop you really need to use a base that is more than just a creme, which is why Last Tango in Paris is perfect for the base. This is so easy to do; all I did was use a black striper polish to make the curve and lines on my nails, as well as to fill in the rest of the wing area, and then a dotting tool in two different sizes to make the dots on the ends of the wings. Easy peasy!

If I can do this in all my unco-ness, the  you can too! Let me know what you think. Thanks for reading!
