January What’s In-die Box? swatches & review – Glam Polish, Lilypad Lacquer, Peita’s Polish, Glittering Elements & Alanna Renee

Hello! Tonight I bring you January’s What’s In-die Box? I’ve missed bringing you my monthly reviews of these, to be honest. I still think What’s In-die Box? is such a fun thing to look forward to every month, especially if you love indie polishes, but I’ve got to say it’s hard buying them every month! The wallet does get a bit tight, if you know what I mean. So with that in mind I’ve decided to skip February’s box (which is such a shame actually because it sounds great!).

Anywho, January’s theme is The Muppets and I think it’s been very well executed overall. The bright colours make the polishes perfect for summer, too.

This is two coats with Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat; ring finger is two coats over one coat Ulta3 Lagoon with Seche (although you can’t really tell). This is an impressive green jelly with iridescent gold glitters and looks amazing in the sun. It is of course based on Kermit and while I am happy with this polish, I do think it a pity that it’s not one of Lilypad’s signature holos.

This is two coats with Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat; ring finger is two coats over one coat Revlon Royal with Seche. This purdy looking polish is based on Gonzo, the loveable Muppet stuntman. It is a blue jelly with small iridescent glitters, small and medium iridescent dots and iridescent diamonds. Unfortunately I had to fish for the glitter in this polish; I’ve found that with all of the Glam Polishes I own, the glitters always seem to love sticking to the side of the bottle. With all of its iridescent-ness, this one looks especially great outdoors, which the obligatory blurred photo below shows.

This is two coats with Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat; ring finger is two coats over one coat Sinful Colors Be Happy with Seche. This is a light green jelly with gold iridescent hexes and specks (almost flakies!). I’m slightly disappointed with the formula as I found it to be a bit goopy; so unusual for Alanna Renee polishes. This I think is based on Beaker and the noise he makes when he’s nervous. I love the colour but at two goopy coats you can still see the nail line. 😦

This is three coats with Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat; ring finger is three coats over one coat Essence Fame Fatal with Seche. This is an orange jelly with iridescent glitter, small and large black hexes and assorted coloured hexes and squares. In the bottle it looks a bit murky but it has a nice orange colour when on the nail; a lovely surprise. This is of course based on the much-loved Animal, the crazy drummer.

This is three coats with Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat; ring finger is three coats over two coats Ulta3 Pale Dahlia with Seche. This is a sheer pink polish with iridescent glitter, medium pink circles and small white hexes. Based on the one and only Miss Piggy, this is a lovely polish, albeit a bit thick. Miss Piggy would be happy, I think.

For me the outstanding polish this month has to be Glam Polish The Great Gonzo! I think it looks great both by itself and over Royal. Next month’s What’s In-die Box? theme is bakery delights, so I’m expecting some yummy treats for fingers! The What’s In-die Box? can be purchased from Peita’s Polish Big Cartel store. The cost is AU$55.94 including shipping, with limited international shipping available for an extra AU$21 I believe. Thanks for reading!

Alanna Renee Mardi

Hello hello! Wondering what’s on my nails today? It’s another wonderful polish from Australian indie maker Alanna Renee. It’s called Mardi and it’s beautiful!

Alanna Renee Mardi by Dry, Dammit!

Mardi is a pink crelly base with a mix of purple/pink hexes and small gold glitters, What you see is just two coats; it’s very deceptive like that! You would think it would be sheer but it’s not.

As you can tell from the mass of photos I absolutely love this polish. I remember when I bought this polish earlier this year I was so excited! I bought it with two other Alanna Renees and I wasn’t disappointed. To me this is a special occasion polish that will suit any occasion, ha ha. The formula was great but I recommend doing the foil method for removal – those purple/pink glitters like to stick.

DETAILS

  • Where to buy: Alanna Renee
  • Cost: AU$7.99
  • Volume: 12ml
  • Coats to opacity: Two

So, what do you think of Mardi? Have you tried any Alanna Renee polishes? Stay tuned for some others I have to show you. Thanks for reading!

What’s In-die Box? & Alanna Renee Lenny

Hello! Today I have to show you some wonderful nail mail I received yesterday – What’s In-die Box!

What's In-Die Box

What is What’s In-die Box!? It’s a great idea by Glam Polish where you receive five unique Australian indie nail polishes at the beginning of the month. You don’t need to do a yearly subscription or anything, you just subscribe to each month separately, so you can pick and choose what you want. The first month was June and the theme was Toy Story! Talk about awesome.

In the photo above there are the five polishes by the five indie polish makers. From left: Glam Polish Ahhhh… Aliens!, Peita’s Polish Hello! I’m Trixie, Lilypad Lacquer Stretch for the Stars, Love Thy Polish How Do You Spell FBI? and Alanna Renee Lenny.

When I received What’s In-die Box I couldn’t believe how beautifully presented it was – it came in its own box (pictured above) and each polish was individually wrapped, plus there was information on all five polishes. At this stage What’s In-die Box is only available in Australia; but there are plenty of other kinds of these subscriptions for other countries if you’re interested.

I have swatched below my favourite polish from the lot – Alanna Renee Lenny. It is based on the character Lenny from Toy Story, if you can’t tell.

Isn’t Lenny amazing? It’s definitely not a polish I would choose to buy but I’m so glad it came as part of What’s In-die Box? The reason why I wouldn’t normally choose to buy it is because of the large black glitters. But seeing them in person and then wearing the polish – I’m in love! I think this could very well be one of my favourites. How weird is that? I’ve had two awesome nail polishes in less than a week.

Alanna Renee Lenny

Lenny is a white jelly-like base with orange, red and blue hexes and large black circle glitters. I’ve worn two coats to achieve what you see here. For such a squishy base the white is very opaque; I thought it would be quite sheer. I just love how the white covers the first coat of polish without cancelling it out and how the large black circle glitters are slightly covered by the white base, yet you can still see them… ahh.

Alanna Renee Lenny

If you’re interested in being part of What’s In-die Box? I suggest you go to Glam Polish and check it out. Including shipping it’s AU$55.94, which is great value for five unique indie polishes. July’s theme is Little Miss and the participating indie polishes are Glam Polish, Lilypad Lacquer, Peita’s Polish, Shades of Phoenix and Mckfresh Nail Attire.

So what do you think of Lenny? Do you like the larger black glitters? Just FYI I plan to have swatches of all the other polishes of the June box in a post over the weekend. Thanks for reading!

Entry for Nails by Kayla Shevonne’s indie nail art contest

Hello! Today I have something a bit different for you – my entry into a Indie Polish Nail Art Contest hosted by Nails by Kayla Shevonne.

The whole idea of the contest – if you haven’t gathered from the name – is to create a nail art design with indie nail polish(es). This is very challenging considering most indies are glitters as opposed to a solid colour. You can use non-indie polishes but they mustn’t be the ‘star’ of the show, if you know what I mean.

As you can see, I decided to go with skittle design also incorporating a diamond shape on top in a complementary colour. The polishes I used were:

  • Pointer finger – Gloss ‘n Sparkle Fruit Tingle and Alanna Renee Purple Addiction
  • Middle finger – Emily de Molly Ego Friendly and Ador Beauty Supplies Kokomo
  • Ring finger – WingDustCollections Hope and Ador Beauty Supplies Lux
  • Pinky – Love Thy Polish Peppermint Patty and Emily de Molly Stuck on Blue
  • I used a black Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen to outline the diamonds

I’m very excited about this competition! There’s a few entries now and the calibre is high, so I’ve got my fingers crossed. There’s three prizes up for grabs and they all sound great.

So, what do you think of my design? Reckon it’s a winner? Thanks for reading!
