Happy New Year! Yes, I’m a little late, but better late than never, hey? I hope everyone had a wonderful festive season and regardless of whether you were in the heat or the cold you had an awesome break. *cough* I had to work so that was really annoying *cough*. Anyway, I’m really excited about 2016. I think now I’m more into the swing of parenthood and I have a job again I’m finding my feet a bit. And best of all – tonight I have Celestial Cosmetics’ first collection of the year to show you! It’s called Tropical Holiday, which is such good timing for me because since I no longer have annual leave I cannot go on a holiday so will have to be happy living through my nail polish. Let’s take a look!
GOING TO THE BEACH
I had to start with my favourite (as soon as I saw it I put it on and wore it for almost a week). I just think Going to the Beach is so simple and yet so beautiful. It’s an ivory creme with golden shimmer, gold flakes and gold sparks. The golden shimmer reminds me of when the sun hits sand and creates that warm glow; do you know what I mean? This had a slightly thick formula, but it wasn’t difficult to apply. You will definitely need two coats though, with the first coat just a good layer of polish and then the second coat to fill in where it looks like it needs to be built up. I then topped it with Celestial Cosmetics Solar Ray Quick Dry Top Coat.
KEY LIME PIE
Key Lime Pie is a warm lime green linear holo with green and gold shimmer. I have always wanted to try key lime pie but in my ignorance didn’t actually realise the limes used in the pie are actually key limes. I didn’t even know there was more than one type of lime! How ridiculous is that, especially considering I know other citrus fruits have different types. I just thought it was some odd name. Ha! Anywho, the formula on this polish is outstanding and very easy to work with. What you see here is two coats without top coat.
Goblin Orchid has the same wonderfully buttery formula Key Lime Pie has and was very easy to apply. It’s a warm berry red linear holo with red and golden microflakes. You can see the microflakes better indoors, which is a nice feature of the polish when it’s not in its full holographic glory. This is two coats without top coat.
I love that The Med was included in this collection. I haven’t seen such a fun jelly come from an indie for ages, so this is a nice change. It’s a turquoise jelly filled with small blue round glitter, holo glitter, silver sparks and tiny silver stars. No fishing was required and while I did three coats, you could have easily left it at two coats. I just added a dabbed third coat for depth. It doesn’t dry overly bumpy but I would recommend a top coat with this one. I used one coat of Solar Ray.
BREAK OF DAY
Break of Day is the second favourite of mine from this collection. For obvious reasons I think – I mean, look at that flame! It just goes wild in the sun. Break of Day is a dark blue linear holo with silver and green shimmer and golden microflakes. It was easy to apply and I think it’s such a wearable blue. What you see is two coats without a top coat.
PURPLE RAIN COCKTAIL
Finally we have Purple Rain Cocktail – a cool-toned purple scattered holo with purple shimmer and pink and blue sparks. This is going to sound bizarre but when I swatched this one I got a very “light” feeling from wearing it. Like I was really relaxed. Which is probably a good thing for a holiday collection! I think it’s the shade of purple; it’s just very calming to me. Again, this one has a wonderful formula and what you see is two coats without a top coat.
