Savvy by DB swatches & review – Confetti, Outburst & Carnivale with starburst nail art

Hello! I’ve been meaning to post about these Savvy by DB polishes for a while now – if you follow me on IG you’ll remember I showed them to you last month. The three polishes below appeared at my local Priceline with two others, but I think they’re repeats of past Savvy by DB polishes – 100’s & 1000’s (yes, the apostrophes annoy me, too) and Razzle & Dazzle (that’s been rebadged as High Voltage) so I didn’t buy them. Also, these new polishes are in square bottles at 12ml, rather than round bottles at 10ml, so you get a bit more.

Because I found application the same with all three – even though they’re glitters – I’m just going to make a statement here to say I found them really easy and manageable. I didn’t have to fish or dab, which is a nice change for a mainstream-branded polish. Also, unlike my dubious experience earlier in the year with other Savvy by DB brushes, I found the brushes to be great; nice and wide without any flyaways. Phew! On with the polishes!

Confetti

This is just one coat of Confetti over two coats OPI My Vampire is Buff on my thumb, pointer and middle fingers and one coat over one coat Models Prefer Little Black Dress on my ring finger and pinky, all topped with Seche. As you can see, Confetti is made up of pink, white and orange matte glitters in a clear base. I’m so surprised by this polish! I thought for sure it would be thick and clumpy. I really like how with just one stroke it’s got a thorough coverage. I thought layering it over My Vampire is Buff might be weird, but I think it’s a winner, it really makes the white glitters pop.

Outburst

I really like Outburst, although I do wish its base were more of a creme and less a jelly. This is two coats without undies on my thumb, pointer and middle fingers and two coats over two coats Max Factor Candy Blue on my ring finger and pinky, all topped with Seche. There are lovely dark blue, light blue, silver and pink glitters throughout a blue jelly base. I’m not sure how well this one would work without undies, unless you’re happy with seeing your nail line. At three or four coats I worry the glitter with look too thick on the nail, if that makes sense. But I’m loving my Candy Blue and Outburst combo. You can thank my husband for suggesting Candy Blue as a base.

Carnivale

I saved my favourite from the three for last. Would you believe this is just two coats? Sure, it’s not full coverage, but I think it comes close, especially from afar. This is another clear base with tiny glitters in gold, pink, purple, green and some iridescent pieces, too. I’ve topped it here with Seche. This sparkles so much! There’s really not a lot more to say as I found this lovely to apply (and even removal wasn’t overly difficult) and it wore really well. I wore this for a couple of days before wanting to nail art it up (below) by using it as a base for starbursts.

DETAILS

  • Where to buy: Priceline
  • Cost: AU$3
  • Volume: 12ml

To create my starbursts I just cut pieces of Scotch blue painters’ tape into long skinny triangles and placed them on my fingers in random patterns, followed by topping with one coat of Models Prefer Little Black Dress and Seche. I really like the result.

So, what do you think of the polishes? I’m very impressed and happy with my purchases. I wish there was more to choose from. Thanks for reading!

  1. I love Outburst in your nail art though I’m not crazy about it on its own…. If that makes sense. Confetti on buff is gorgeous too! πŸ™‚

  2. So pretty! I wanna be like you! I just started painting my nails with Savvy amp it up (one base coat) and Savvy ice ice… (top coat; one layer) It still hasn’t chipped yet, considering it’s just 2 layers in total. The look I achieved wasn’t wasn’t I expected; it looks like pink candy from the game Candy Crush is on my fingers! I got so distracted by them that I wasted time in the maths test yesterday, LOL

Please leave a comment! I read every one and always reply.
