Hello! How has everyone’s weekends been going? Over the weekend my husband and I had a garage sale to get rid of some items before we head off overseas in a month’s time. We made a couple hundred dollars, which is way more than what I expected to make, and donated the rest of the items we couldn’t sell to charity. It felt good doing a spring clean.
Anywho, today I have to show you a couple of items from Essence’s new collection called Me & My Ice Cream. It’s quite a cute collection and I really like the idea behind it. The nail polish I have to show you is called Ice, Ice Baby and I also have to show you some nail stickers that I assume are the “sprinkles” element of the collection. In reality they’re just caviar bead stickers but I thought were pretty cool. They were also a lot easier to put on than I expected.
Ice, Ice Baby is a really pretty pastel purple creme with a purple-blue shimmer through it. The collection has three other colours, all pastels, and off the top of my head they are green, blue and pink. Obviously I thought Ice, Ice Baby was the nicest. Application was relatively easy, you just had to be careful when apply the second coat so as not to create any bald patches.
The nail topping stickers, which have no name, were another matter though. While I found them easy to apply I did find the wear time on these to be pretty crappy. As you can see in the photos I already have terrible tip wear on my pointer and ring finger. This is because you have to trim / cut the edge of the sticker once on the nail and it’s quite hard to do! The sticker is quite sticky (maybe that’s why it’s a sticker) and it kind of pulls when you cut it and some of the free edge of the sticker comes off with the bit you actually want to remove. The photos show what my nails look like after I woke up from sleeping with the stickers on – a few have fallen off but it was nothing like the avalanche that seemed to happen all day at work where I’d be typing and then I’d hear one rolling on my desk. I definitely think these stickers are for special events; just like other caviar beads are. However the benefit of the stickers is that with the application there’s no mess. The stickers are quite narrow though and while it says on the pack there are eight sizes, some of them were so crazy narrow I wonder who they’ve actually based these stickers on. I’d like to meet this person and their fortunate narrow, long nails.
- Where to buy: Priceline
- Cost: Nail polish AU$2.95, nail stickers AU$3.50
- Volume: Nail polish 10ml, 16 nail stickers
- Coats to opacity: Two (for the nail polish, obviously!)
I guess you could try putting a top coat over the stickers, but I’m not sure if that would work or even look all that good to be honest. Imagine the layers of top coat needed to smooth it out! Just enjoy these for what they are and wear them to have fun, I say. Also, did you see the cute nail polish bottle? I just wish the white lid wasn’t white, I think it would have been cute to play up on the ice cream theme more and maybe have been a cone or something. Oh well. Thanks for reading!
