A nail blog by an impatient polisher

Dupe or not? Savvy by DB Blue Bayou & Sally Hansen Bling-tastic; Savvy by DB Purple Viking (Out & About) & Sally Hansen Be-Jeweled

Phew! Sorry about that long title. I thought I should probably put all the names in there just in case. So, as you can probably tell from the title I will be doing two comparisons of some Sally Hansen and Savvy by DB polishes to discover if they are dupes or not. Just so you know, all the pictures of my nails are taken indoors without top coat.

These polishes are pretty much identical in the bottle. Bling-tastic is part of the Gem Crush Collection if you’re thinking it’s familiar. They’re both very pretty polishes and you would think were the same, however they translate differently when on the nail.

This is one coat. Bling-tastic is on the pointer finger and ring finger and Blue Bayou is on the middle finger and pinky. You can tell instantly the difference, there just seems to be a much better glitter coverage in Bling-tastic rather than Blue Bayou.

Two coats. Yep, still a difference.

Finally, three coats. As you can see there is definite patchiness in Blue Bayou and also the blue in its glitter seems to be a bit lighter than Bling-tastic. Also, sorry that my pinky is out of focus. It wasn’t meant to be, obviously. Are these dupes? I’m thinking no, in the sense that dupes should be spot on. However, I don’t think you need both polishes in your collection. Blue Bayou could be remedied by a base colour and for a significant price difference I think you might as well do that, or even just do another coat or two.

The reason why I put Out & About in brackets is because since diving through the Savvy by DB bins at Priceline, I have come to realise some of the polishes are actually re-releases with different names. I have found this with two so far and Purple Viking (Out & About) is one of them. I will call it Purple Viking though as it’s the name of the bottle I own. Be-Jeweled is from the Gem Crush Collection. As with the Blue Bayou and Bling-tastic comparison, Purple Viking and Be-Jeweled look the same in the bottle, but are different when on the nail.

This is one coat of Purple Viking and Be-Jeweled, with Purple Viking on my middle finger and pinky and Be-Jeweled on my pointer finger and ring finger. It looks like my middle finger and pinky are hardly covered at all!

Two coats. The opacity is looking better, but my middle finger and pinky are still a bit bald. Also, I’m finding the glitters through Purple Viking are more red than pink.

Three coats. This is no comparison at all in the end, really. There is no way there two are dupes and I would even say you could have both in your collection. Lucky me, ha ha. πŸ™‚

If I stumble upon more polishes I think are similar to others I own I’ll keep these posts coming. I think they’re really fun to do.

So, what do you think? Agree? Disagree? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for reading!
